Is it REALLY Murano/Venetian glass?

Many eBay Sellers or online companies will try to pass-off Chinese Glass or other products as Genuine Murano Glass. Here are a few indicators that may help you determine if a seller’s glass is Venetian/Murano glass or not. These examples are not absolute, however, for the most part, you can "bank" on them to be accurate depictions as to how some sellers will try and fool you.

1) If a seller says they have LARGE quantities of the same piece for sale...chances are the pieces are not Murano since these are one of a kind creations.

2) If a seller consistently sells pieces from .01 to $10.00 or so, it's probably not Murano glass. You can check by reviewing the seller’s history or using the search engines to determine where the article was either made or shipped from.

3) If a seller doesn't indicate who the artist is, that's a pretty good sign the maker is not one of the Murano glass masters. There are only 90 or so artists on the Island of Murano, so it wouldn't be hard for a seller to identify the creator of a particular piece for you.

4) Shipping costs and shipping location. If shipping is costing you $16.00 and it’s coming from Hong Kong or Thailand, well, you make your own judgment call.

5) Ask us and we'll find out for you. The Island of Murano is small and our contacts there know everything and anything that is being produced. If large amounts of glass jewelry are being produced and exported, we can just ask and find out.

As a service to our customers, we would like them to know as much as possible about Murano glass and welcome any questions.
