Jewelry vs Tatoos

Tatoos Vs Jewelry copy

Do you know what’s the hottest in fashion these days – freedom! The beauty is that you can think of the wackiest, wildest of the things, do them and be respected for your freedom of expression. This one’s a great example. My friend Stella had an allergic reaction to some metals. This allergy has resulted in a phobia for jewelry. Even if it is hypo allergic, Stel is dead scared of jewelry. So on her wedding Stel chose to be different and creative. Stel wore wedding tattoos to adorn her on her bridal day. Those were fancy temporary tattoos but believe me they looked cooler than diamonds. As if this was not enough, Stel and her hubby exchanged their wows and got tattoo wedding rings done! And you know what Ton, Stella’s husband, said while exchanging their tattoo rings, “only till death do us apart!”, and literally meant it.

Women Without Jewelry

ash_445x340

Women without jewelry... the expression is like night without stars, garden without flowers… wow that was poetic! No, but seriously why is jewelry so synonymous with women or why is essential for her existence?

My curiosity got the better of me and like a research student I started my expedition to find the eternal truth. After talking to a hundred women and exploring the Internet these are the findings of my research - eternal answer to the eternal question.

For woman jewelry is more than just fashion. Most of the times jewelry is a story – your grand dad got this necklace for me on out honeymoon, my parents presented me this pendant when I graduated from collage, my first earrings, my husband’s surprise, and the tale goes on.

Invariably jewelry is an expression of self for women. So there are designs that are bold, simple, sophisticated, dainty, pretty, elaborate, funky, fun, classy, flashy, subtle, elegant, girly, orthodox, classic, stylish and every kind that you can possibly imagine a woman can be.

And one of the most important reasons why women love jewelry – jewelry makes women feel beautiful… from inside. So with so compelling reasons can you still imagine a woman without jewelry? Not fair dude!

Which is the Best Trendy Diamond shape for a Engagement Ring? - XI

Heart = Love, all the way
A symbol of romance and sentimentality, the heart-shaped diamond is considered a novelty for engagement rings. This shape is difficult to execute and requires exceptional skills of a cutter to shape it.

Celebrities with heart diamonds
Queen of romance and all things sentimental, Joan Collins proudly wears a heart-shaped diamond in a 19th-centurty setting of her fourth finger from her latest hubby, Percy Gibson.

Uncommon and unique, the radiant combines elegant glamour of the emerald shape with the brilliance of the round, resulting in a rare sparkly square with trimmed corners.

Pear = Different
Combining the best of the marquise and the oval, this lovely hybrid resembles a twinkling teardrop, but a tear of joy here. Usually preferred for pendants and earrings, the pear shape is also a unique and excellent choice for engagement rings.

Celebrities with pear diamonds
Before their much talked about break-up, Liza Minnelli sported a pear-shaped three-and-a-half-carat diamond from David Gest.

Oval = Interesting
Like round diamonds, oval diamonds have a remarkable brilliance. Even and symmetrical, this shape is popular as a solitaire with accents. The elongated shape gives the illusion of length to the hand, resulting in slender-looking fingers.

Celebrities with oval diamonds
Drummer Keri Lewis also wowed his love Toni Braxton with an oval ode to love -- the four-and-a-half-carat ring features an oval center stone, with heart-shaped accents on each side.

Marquise = Dramatic
I love the history associated to this shape. Legend has it that this cut was invented when the King of France Louis XIV, ordered a diamond to be shaped resembling the smile of Marquise de Pompadour, his mistress. The uniquely tapered shape, essentially an oval with rounded sides and pointed edges, actually resembles the shape of lips. The clever cut can make the diamond look larger than it really is and can make fingers look leaner and more slender.

Celebrities with marquise diamonds
Catherine Zeta-Jones
proudly sports Michael Douglas' symbol of love, a massive 10-carat marquise diamond. Posh socializer Victoria Beckham  flaunts  a three-carat marquise, accented with a trillion on each side, from soccer star David Beckham.

Cushion = Romantic
as the name suggests the shape resembles the shape of a cushion. It has a brilliant cut which means more facets that eventually mean more sparkle. One of the most popular diamond shapes about a century ago, cushion cuts are reminiscent of an era of romance and elegance.

Celebrities with cushion diamonds
Famous fingers romancing this stone include sweetheart Ashley Judd, whose racer-car-driving heartthrob, Dario Franchitti, presented her with an antique cushion-cut diamond. Chris Henchey presented the ever charming Brooke Shields with a symbol of undying his love, a cushion cut diamond.

Asscher = Vintage
the Asscher is almost similar to emerald cut but in a square shape. This cut has a vintage charm with asschers being very popular during the Art Deco period. The asscher cut diamond has an extraordinary debt that gives the diamond an exceptional beauty.

Celebrities with asscher diamonds
Reese Witherspoon was presented a huge four-and-a-half-carat Asscher-cut diamond set in a 1920s art deco style by her former hubby Ryan Phillippe. Rocker Chris Robinson wowed Kate Hudson with a five-carat Asscher-cut diamond in an art deco mounting.

Emerald= Classy
If you're the ice queen, this is your diamond. Here ice represents clarity. A rectangular shape with long, lean facets extending down the sides like stairs. Because it has less facets clarity is more prominent and the sparkle is subtle but classy.

Celebrities with emerald diamonds
Though brief, while engaged to Paris Lastis, Paris Hilton sported a massive 24-carat emerald-cut diamond ring. Elizabeth Taylor,  wore a nearly 30-carat emerald-cut diamond presented to her by Michael Todd, her third husband. Prince Rainier of Monaco presented the very gorgeous  Grace Kelly a 12-carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring when he proposed marriage.

Now its time for....

Princess = Fashionable

Princess Diamond A relatively modern invention, the princess shape is flirty and fun. It is the second most popular shape, after the round. More facets mean more sparkle, and this one’s a square with a lot of facets like the round brilliant.

Celebrities with princess diamonds

Hollywood hottie Kevin Costner wooed his lady Christine Baumgartner with a 5 carat pricess diamond in an intricate setting.

This one’s for you Cathy. Lets do it one by one & start with my favorite...

Round = The Classic

Round Diamond

            Often referred to as brilliant cut, round shaped diamonds are by far the most popular diamonds for engagement rings. Round diamonds are celebrated for their exceptional brilliance and these diamonds best exhibit fire. The round shape is extremely versatile and timeless, perfectly suits simple and elaborate settings equally. In short, a well-set round diamond will give you the most sparkle for your buck.

Celebrities with rounds

Football Hero Jason Sehorn melodramatically (recall the proposal on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno?) presented Hollywood actress Angie Harmon with a beautiful round solitaire. Barbra Streisand was flattered when she received a one carat round from actor James Brolin.  Mary J. Blige fell for a five-carat round diamond, surrounded baguette diamonds in a platinum setting. The much talked about Guy Ritchie popped the question to pop diva Madonna with an Edwardian-style ring having five carats worth of round diamonds.

Which is the Best Trendy Diamond shape for a Engagement Ring?

Diamonds copy

                              Wow its time for a diamond. This post was inspired by Catherine; a friend of mine who is getting engaged this Thanksgiving (lucky girl!). Her boyfriend suggested that she look for a ring that she wanted and they would get engaged with family and friends around on Thanksgiving. He’s already proposed and she’s accepted, just that he wanted the ring ritual to be a little more special. Oh my God, this sure is thoughtful and I am already jealous.

Well, well. Back to what Cathy asked me and why I wrote this. Catherine wanted to know which is the trendiest of diamond shapes.

Just wait a little more to know.......

Bracelets – "An accessory to adorn your wrist."

bracelet_blue_diamond

O
ne of the most popular adornments in the ancient world, a bracelet is a piece of jewelry that is worn around the wrist. The history of bracelets and their association to mysticism is an interesting lore. Different cultures across the world had different mystic associations to bracelets. Indian women wore bracelets in marriage and associated it symbolically to being married; in Rome, the most popular form of the bracelet consisted of coiled rings with snakehead ends, symbolic of the youthful forces of life. As per some jewelry experts and historians the female bracelet evolved from male warrior rings, related not only to the protection of the hand. And from there it further evolved into a major fashion accessory.

Necklaces to Adorn Your Neck

ma_necklace Necklaces are ornaments worn around the neck. Necklaces have been a popular choice of body adornments since the ancient civilization. There are traces of events which indicate the presence of necklaces in the period as early as to when the Israelis evacuated Egypt. Another example which proves the early origin of the necklaces is the painting of Thebes, which intends that people of that era both men and women wore necklaces either for cultural or religious purposes.
