Wow! What a Ring

flower copy

Now that big cocktail rings and cluster rings are the latest trend, my only concern is the price. Large stones cost exorbitantly high. But this a smart design. Smaller stones are used to create a large cluster ring. Very fashionable. I love it when fashion becomes so affordable

Controversies: - Ruby Banned in USA

It’s humanity v/s values, greed v/s need, luxury v/s existence, power v/s command – it’s Myanmar v/s Ruby. Or is it really all this. The recent US ban on Burmese ruby has got a lot of us thinking. I mean it’s fair if you look at the human rights violation and the inhuman working conditions the miners are forced in. In a world where freedom is our fundamental right, if people are being treated as slaves, we should support any move against it. So what do we do, we go ahead and ban it. Fair. Actually as an American I fell a little contended and generous for this philanthropic act of mine – I don’t but blood rubies you see.

Ruby banned1

And then I met Kiet Timkul, a gemstone artisan from Thailand. He earned his bread and butter by cutting and polishing ruby. All he has done in 30 years is cut and polish ruby from a small machine installed in his hard-to-breathe-in cottage. And I realize it’s not just Kiet, it’s thousands and millions like him who are suddenly out of business. In most of these countries that earn their living by catering to the first world’s luxuries, being out of business means not getting two square meals. But this fact still doesn’t support ‘blood rubies’. So I am battling ethics here. I know world’s not a fair place but are we the ones who get to stamp things around? Thinking… a very ironical truth – I love rubies!

Unique Indian Jewelry

Necklace

Like people enjoy learning about various cultures and the variations, I enjoy seeing the different jewelry that people I different cultures wear. Look at this beautiful necklace and dangling earrings set with peridot in yellow gold. This set also includes ‘Tika’, an ornament that is worn on the head delicately dangling on the forehead. The design is typically Indian.

I loved the intricate craftsmanship. This design is reminiscent of the ancient Indian royal jewelry. the ‘Maharajas’ and ‘Maharini’s’ of ancient India wore such elaborate jewelry with intricate designs. I loved the design and think it would make perfect bridal jewelry for a bride as beautiful and special.

So how old do you think fashion is? As old as civilization? Well it’s older than that, it accounts back to the prehistoric times. The recent discovery from the caves of Blombos in Africa is shocking. 41 shells, with perforations and wear marks indicating usage, have been found. This reports usage of jewelry some 75,000 years ago. Wow! So now we know where these genes come from. Flinstones your fashion ain’t that original!

What would you prefer – value over price?

What would you prefer – value over price? Rather a more apt question would be what is your ideal definition of value? This debate between two friends indeed is some food for thought. Let us know how do you feel?

Rebecca – Check out my bridal jewelry – matching pendants and earrings, I am planning a matching bracelet too.

Sheila – Lucky girl! Aquamarine with diamond accents. Love the look. Must have cost you a bomb but they look very pretty.

Rebecca – Thanks. Didn’t really cost me that much though. I used white sapphires instead of diamonds.

Sheila – You did? Somehow I would stick to diamonds even if I were to compromise a little on the elaborate design or the number of stones.

Rebecca -Common. Those are natural white sapphires, not any synthetic stones. So this indeed is fine jewelry with the same beauty at fraction of the cost. And since I can so afford it now I am planning to get a matching bracelet. Don’t you think that’s wonderful? I call that value for money.

Sheila – Maybe. But bridal jewelry is special. I mean you could spend some lavish amount on yourself once in your lifetime!

Feel free to share your valuable views with us and tell us what you feel.

Which is better Gemstone Jewelry or Diamond Jewelry?

Diamond Jewelry       Vs       Gemstone Jewelry

Diamond is the ultimate symbol of enduring love, passion, elegance, and glamour. Buying diamond jewelry goes far beyond tradition or beauty; it’s about an admiration, a passion and a possession that goes beyond material benefits.

Diamond jewelry perfectly adorns every occasion and wardrobe. While diamond studs or basic hoops combined with dainty pendants add everyday elegance to your office wear, diamond dangling earrings or diamond necklace can add luxurious glamour to your evening wear.

If you are an ardent jewelry lover, and buying diamonds to go with all your outfits sounds great but an impractically costly affair, colored gemstone jewelry is the answer for you. Gemstones occur in a spectrum of colors, and although being rare and natural, do not cost the earth. You can choose the color and style of your gemstone jewelry and match it with your outfit. Simple studs for your office wear would change to flirty danglers or romantic drops for your evening wear. To make that special statement, combine colored gemstones with diamonds and see the magic.

Emerald Pendant

Honestly, writing for this piece was difficult. How would you define the pendant? Beautiful, elegant, charming, adorable… am I running out of adjectives? And these are not synonyms, believe me all of them aptly describe the lovely pendant. A lush green emerald beautifully framed by round brilliant diamonds. The icy white brilliance of the diamonds is in fine contrast with the lovely green color of emerald making the green look greener and of course prettier. Emerald is one of the most precious gemstones and in round shape they are even more prized because the shape round has the more facets as compared to other shapes and requires exceptional skills of a cutter to create a perfect round emerald.

The designer has created a masterpiece in terms of balancing beauty and value. The I color, I1 clarity diamonds add a distinctive sparkle to the pendant making it look bigger and more luxurious. The entire piece is covered by diamonds with no metal visible, adding to the sophisticated look. The marquise shaped diamonds add an interesting, unusual style to the lovely pendant.
Irresistible is the word… Got the word!
